About Us 4

Johnston Lions Club  –  Serving Johnston Since 1945

And Johnston Lions Foundation

The Johnston Lions Club is the longest functioning service organization in Johnston.  We meet at our club’s community building at 6501 Merle Hay Road.

We provided community services such as street lighting and warning sirens before Johnston became a city in 1969.  We can help provide glass or hearing aids to residences of the Johnston School District. (If you live outside the Johnston School District, contact the Lions Clubs of Iowa at (515) 232-2215 to locate clubs in your area.)  If you have eyeglasses or hearing aids to recycle, place them in a Lions donation box at the front door of our community building or at one of several community locations.  We also operate a medical equipment loan closet for our area.

We have assisted the Johnston schools with volunteer hours, dollars for sports awards banquets, teacher appreciation, bleachers in the gym, Christmas trees, flags, stadium press boxes, student scholarships, and eyeglasses for needy students.  In a joint project with the Johnston Booster Club, the Lions sells ads for the sports programs, contributing nearly $4,000 each year to assist with school enhancements. We assist with car-parking at home football games.

In 1989 we built our community building for our club and make it available for rental for weddings, receptions, parties, meetings, and church.  It is located at 6501 Merle Hay Road in Johnston.  Here is a history of our club:

An annual Book Sale raises as much as $2,500 each year for the Johnston Public Library.  Other contributions aid eye sight related programs.  We are fortunate to be able to make timely contributions to provide emergency relief for national and international disasters.
